1984
THE FIRST STORE OPENS
In 1984 Ramón Escapa opened his first bicycle shop at 42 Barcelona Road, in the city of Sabadell, being one of the pioneers in turning his passion for cycling into his way of life.
An old English house adapted into a store where he sold the legendary Peugeot VTT 1, the BH Kilimanjaro, and several Specialized bikes, a brand with which ESCAPA has been associated ever since. The best-selling bikes were road bikes, and ESCAPA was already making exclusive adaptations similar to today's gravel bikes.
1987
THE PEDAL CLUB
In 1987, Club El Pedal was founded. During those years, bicycles were mainly repaired for customers of the shop, and the first outings with Club El Pedal also began.
It was then when the first demands from the citizens of Sabadell for more bike lanes in the city started. ESCAPA has always been very active in advocating for a more sustainable world where, undoubtedly, the bicycle plays a decisive role.
In 2000, ESCAPA, once again a pioneer in its sector, launched its online store: https://www.biciescapa.com/en/. Since then, the online store has been growing continuously, becoming today one of the most relevant and referenced e-commerce platforms in the market.
2002
ESCAPE, SELL THE FIRST ELECTRIC BIKE
At ESCAPA, we have always supported the bicycle as a mobility option in any of its forms and disciplines, as well as innovation. That is why, from the beginning, we have bet on e-bikes.
Today, it is not surprising to see an electric bike riding on trails, climbing a mountain pass, or moving through the city. In this sense, ESCAPA is one of the leading specialists in e-bike sales in the country.
2012
THE NEW BICIESCAPA STORE
In 2012 ESCAPA moves again, a few meters up and on the same Carretera de Barcelona in Sabadell, in a significant challenge, becoming then the largest cycling store in the country.
An emblematic building with more than 2000m2 dedicated to enthusiasts of this sport and lifestyle. It has two distinct areas for road and mountain, specific workshops, and a restaurant on the premises, the renowned Tourmalet.
2019
WE ARE CELEBRATING 35 YEARS AND A NEW STORE IN GIRONA
The most relevant milestone comes in 2019. After 35 years with just one store, ESCAPA lands in Sarrià de Ter, Girona.
The rehabilitation of a historic paper paste factory from 1870 becomes the second store. With over 1000m2, it has become a benchmark and a must-visit destination for bicycle lovers and cycling enthusiasts in the area.
2021
ESCAPA BECOMES PART OF THE QUADIS GROUP
The largest network of dealerships and official workshops in Spain in the automotive sector. In a commitment to expansion and customer service, and without abandoning the family values of both companies, ESCAPA takes on a new dimension and positions itself as a leader in the cycling sector in our country.
2021
PROBIKE, A PARALLEL STORY SINCE 1989
In 1989, just 5 years after Ramón Escapa opened his first store in Sabadell, his counterpart in Barcelona, Pere Cahué, opened the first Probike workshop. A workshop that would soon become the "Botiga Club," a reference point for bicycle sales and repairs in Barcelona where, in addition to that, unique customer experiences took place beyond just sales (bike outings, competitions, and trips).
After more than 30 years of fierce competition between ESCAPA and Probike, where they shared brands, customers, concerns, difficulties, and many successes, at the end of 2021, Probike and Retto (a cycling website belonging to the Probike group) join the ESCAPA family in an exciting project of consolidation and growth to better serve our customers.
2021
BICISPORT AND BCP
Jordi Marimón, founder of Bicisport and BCP Suspensiones in Barcelona, decides to join the ESCAPA project. His store becomes the fourth ESCAPA retail point.
The addition of BCP enhances the technical service specialization and knowledge of suspensions to another level.
2022
¡HELLO MADRID!
ESCAPA inaugurates a new store format, more spacious, experiential, with greater product exposure and luminosity. In August 2022, the new flagship located at Paseo del Llano Castellano 15 in Madrid opens. Over 1,200m2 of exhibition space and another 1,000m2 for workshop and warehouse. A very ambitious project in a new city to continue growing.
2023
CASTELLÓN WITH MONPEDAL
The landing on the Levantine coast comes hand in hand with Monpedal. Tomás Ruano, founder, decides to join the ESCAPA project in April 2023, expanding the commercial network to 6 stores and bringing ESCAPA to the Valencian Community.
2023
ESCAPA TARRAGONA
The seventh ESCAPA store becomes a reality in May 2023. Our second flagship, with a space of 1,000m2, is located at Carretera de Valencia 1. With it, we aim to strengthen the presence of the ESCAPA brand in Catalan territory and meet the needs of cyclists in Tarragona and the surrounding area.
2024
THE ESCAPA PROJECT CONTINUES TO GROW
In 2024, ESCAPA continues its expansion plan by opening new sales points in the country and aiming to increase sales in international markets.
